With the Insteon RemoteLinc (#2440), it's not quite so simple. First you have to hold down a button corresponding to the module you want to control for 10 seconds. Once you get the LED light to blink, you then have four minutes to program the module or you have to start over again. To do this, go to the module, hold the side button for three seconds and wait for the LED confirmation light. Then re-check everything to make sure you followed the directions properly. You're going to have to do this for every single lamp or appliance you want to control. What a headache!
That's not all! In order for the Insteon RemoteLinc (#2440) to work, you're going to need an Insteon Access Point module (actually, Insteon recommends two of them, which will cost you $69.99). With ours, all you need is a simple $12.99 plug-in Transceiver.
